Let me quickly check... It is the 21st century right? I mean we have discovered electricity, been on the moon (ok I know that one for some is controversial), and become the age of the mobile phone addicts?
Women vote, women work, women strive to have it goddamn all, but when it comes to pregnancy and fitness I feel like that one missed the turning to Modernity and got left back in the dark ages. For here I am, a mere five weeks pregnant and already my body is changing and I'm seeking for some "support" and it's just not what I expected. To be honest, I probably shouldn't be shouting and screaming so early on and before I'm past the dreaded 12 week scan, but this little Urch (urchin), is a special one, it's an IVF job so I've known about it every step of the way, and even if it chooses not to hang around I want to celebrate its presence, it's existence right NOW.
Anyway, I digress. My rant and rave today is about my boobs, they've grown, before they were barely 'comment-able' and now, at least in my mind they have just catapulted into existence and they need help! I am a fitness instructor, I pride myself on being fit and active and grasping life with two hands and two bouncy feet and that doesn't have to stop just because I've got Urch bedding in. Absolutely, I have to be careful and mindful, it's like having a B&B, before you might leave all your shizzle on the floor and tea stains on the side, now I've got to clear up and make sure everything is spotless and ship shape. But, I am not going to stop, and women it has been proven that the fitter you are during pregnancy the healthier your baby will be. Obviously you need to make sure you're embarking on an exercise regime that is conducive with your fitness history, but ladies ignore those stares in the gym from the uneducated who think you should be at home with your feet up, let's start a preggers Mumma fitness revolution.
The thing that bothers me the most, is I expected to type into google maternity sports bra and be literally smothered with images and sites, but in reality there is barely anything. Instead, I'm just told to 'get a bigger size'. I get it, a sports bra is perfect for supporting the girls no matter what condition you are, but seriously, with the explosion of everyday maternity wear I as a pregnant woman want to feel like something in sport has been made especially for me and my changing body shape; I'm not fat, I'm nurturing something beautiful inside of me and I want to celebrate that. At the moment all I can wear is a mangy crop top as my other bras are too painful and I just refuse to 'get a bigger size', I mean you don't say that to a pregnant woman nowadays when she's looking to buy a dress, no sir, instead you visit the plethora of shops that seek to stock to support a woman on the most special journey of her life.
So can you imagine my delight when I discovered a company who were hearing me, FITTA MAMMA, not only are they providing the most gorgeous sportswear for us preggos but they also provide useful information and fitness videos on how to stay fit and actively promote being fit, preggers and proud. I could have kissed my computer.
